Overview

A data foundation built for manufacturing quality

This global top 10 outsourced semiconductor assembly and test provider operates high-volume production sites across Asia. Its inspection equipment continuously generates high-resolution images: recent files support immediate review, while older records must remain available for customer inquiries, audits, and process analysis.

Challenge

Inspection growth had outpaced line-side storage

Billions of small files were distributed across production equipment and local storage. The company needed uninterrupted ingestion, fast retrieval, differentiated retention policies, and protection against equipment-room or site-level failure—without changing established line-side workflows.

  • Continuous ingestion from packaging and test equipment could not pause for storage maintenance.
  • Recent inspection images and long-retention records required different cost and performance profiles.
  • A resilient copy was required outside the primary production environment.

Solution

One governed platform for the complete data lifecycle

Dataram IDM and distributed object storage established a unified cross-room data foundation. An eight-node production cluster separates hot and cold data, automates image processing and lifecycle transitions, and asynchronously replicates both pools to disaster-recovery storage. Inspection applications continue writing through familiar interfaces while IDM applies governance in the background.

01

Separate hot and cold storage pools align performance with the business value of each data set.

02

Automated image processing and lifecycle policies reduce capacity consumption without manual file handling.

03

Asynchronous replication protects both storage pools in a disaster-recovery environment.

Results

Measurable value at production scale

The platform supports 24×7 production, reduces processed image size to approximately one-fifth of the original, and scales without interrupting front-end equipment as inspection volume grows. Four expansion cycles demonstrate how the architecture can grow with long-term demand.

4×Expansion cycles
  • Approximately 60 PB of inspection data managed on a production-ready foundation.
  • Processed images use about 80% less storage while remaining available to quality workflows.
  • Online expansion supports sustained growth without disrupting line operations.
